I'm from England, and I've been living and teaching in Japan for several years. At EFFECT, I enjoy seeing children grow in confidence and become better at expressing themselves. Students at EFFECT have a unique chance to develop their language skills in a friendly and encouraging environment. As may have all had similar experiences, the students are able to communicate in English unselfconsciously in class and have fun learning together.

Faster than a flying eraser! More powerful than a packed train car pusher! Able to leap tall desks in a single bound! Hi, my name is Jeff. I've been in Japan for several years now. I’m originally from Washington, DC, but I've called many places home. I have spent most of the last 20 years in the field of education. I think one of the most important things is to create a fun learning environment where a child can feel comfortable working fully in English. Here at EFFECT we may only see our students a few hours a week, but we have the opportunity to give them the encouragement and skills they need to enjoy English books and movies in their own time. Learning is lifelong. Let’s have fun learning together!

Hello, I’m Ben and I’m from Canada. I’ve lived in Japan for 11 years teaching English to children and adults of all levels. I really enjoy teaching kids because they are so full of enthusiasm, and they keep me excited, too! I believe students benefit from using English in a variety of subjects. To that end, I strive to get students interested in what they are learning by relating the information to their own lives and how it affects them.

Education means inspiring someone's mind, and not just filling their head. I have been teaching for 16 years in my country, The United States of America, and several years in South Korea, and have always made it my priority to "inspire" students. It can be challenging across the board, and even more so in Japan. Teaching for me is a reciprocal matter: The student interacting constantly, the student speaking more, the student speaking to other students to make meaning out of in-class curricula, as the teacher acts as a mediator. My lessons are driven by "authenticity and reality"--that is, whatever they learn in class, it is "real world" learning, meaning that they should be able, when learning in class, apply their skills outside of the classroom. I strive each day to learn new methods, new innovative techniques in the field of Second Language Acquisition to further assist my students in their English endeavors.

Hello my name is Radley. I am from Colorado Springs, Colorado of the United States of America. I have been in Japan for six years and I have been teaching at EFFECT for three years. Effect international school has some of the best prospective students I have encountered in my teaching career. Students enter our school with many different international backgrounds. Then, graduate later as diligent, confident, and well rounded individuals. For this, I feel reassured that the students at our school will become some of the best contributions for our future and society.

My name is Justin! I'm from Australia and I've lived in Japan for six years. I enjoy teaching at Effect because I enjoy helping students increase their English fluency and maintain the skills they already have but often wouldn't have a chance to use. I always try to relate material to everyday life and things the students are familiar with. In my free time I enjoy music, basketball, and traveling all over Japan.

Hello all, my name is Mike and I’m from Washington D.C.? I feel that a proper education is incredibly important for young learners in Japan especially since it is critical that they learn good habits early on.? I usually place a strong emphasis on development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills in all of my classes, so that students will be able to better grasp new concepts on their own and apply them to real life situations.? Discussion of textbook reading materials, world topics, sharing of opinions for debate, as well as written essays are an important part of encouraging students to think by themselves and gradually become more skilled at their ability to apply the English language to a variety of circumstances.? I have found that the students enjoy their classes very much when they feel like they are able to accomplish something on their own without help.? It’s a great feeling.

It is my pleasure to welcome you all to Effect International School.? My name is Simon, and am originally from Canberra, Australia.? I first came to Japan as an exchange student, and studied abroad at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa Prefecture for one year.? Since then, I have worked as a public servant for the Board of Education in Kochi Prefecture over a two year period, and have been living in Tokyo for just over year now.? I love using a wide variety of education materials and tailoring lesson plans to incorporate student’s diverse interests, and capture their attention and imagination.? I have a passion for English education as a foreign language as well as a first language, integrating thematic units, co-operative learning projects and improving students reading, writing, speaking and listening ability.? I look forward to meeting you all.

At Effects school students come with a good background in English language ability (according to their grade level). As a teacher, my job is to help the students to continue to improve their reading, comprehension and speaking ability. It is imporatnt in any language to be able to express onself and to read and understand a variety of information. During the class the students complete the textbook materials. But more importantly students discuss their ideas, ask questions and share their opinions about the topics. Teaching means encouraging students to think by themselves. I try to get students interested in what they are learning by relating the information to their own lives and how they are affected. I find that students are quite enjoying their classes at Effects School.

All in all, Effect is a school that caters to the needs of foreign-educated students who are living in Japan. These students speak a second language, often as well as, or better than, their primary language. Being an American citizen of Japanese descent, this is something that I am intimately familiar with. I grew up speaking both Japanese and English, much like the students at Effect. Before coming to Japan, I realized very keenly that my Japanese was not up to par-- primarily because of my lack of experience speaking to native adults. Certainly, it was one of the biggest deciding factors in actually coming to Japan. Four years later, and my Japanese is almost indistinguishable from a native's colloquial speech. It stands to speak that I have experience in achieving what Effect sets out to do-- apply native curricula and education to produce a high level of language comprehension.
